Last Homework of AP-5

Week 1,  9/10
I think that I did a good job describing the way we eat at home, I also believe that the mistake that I committed are normal at this point in the process of English learning, I took a point off because I should have enhanced the comments about ingredients.
Week 2, 10/10
I gave the highest score to this task, because you comment that it was a good post, including a good description of the location and a good justification for using this place to start a business there.
Week 3, 10/10
Once again I gave the highest score to this week post, because it was well structured, and also the description of how the middle term presentation would be developed in class was really close to the presentation itself.
Week 4, 8/10
I took of two points in this week task, because there were more corrections than it should be at this level of the English program, I supposed that I should practice more to develop the my English written skills.
Week 5, 9/10
I think that I did it well describing the topic, probably it would have been better to extend the explanation of how the debate will be organized, and that’s the reason why I took off one point. (Did you notice how I use the grammar structure that you taught me in class? if you didn’t, it is underlined).

Part of the abstract of one of my research proyects, is it well written?

The aim of this study was to establish the incidence of type I and type II clinical and subclinical ketosis in a Jersey herd in Oreamuno, Cartago using a pasture based system; and set up its relationship with milk production and body condition score in the close up period. To establish the incidence of type I ketosis, the β-hidroxibutiric acid (BHBA) was measured in blood of 114 cows, 99 (86,8%), 11 (9,6%) and 4 (3,5%) were categorized as healthy, type I subclinical ketosis and type I clinical ketosis respectively. The type II ketosis was established by measuring the BHBA concentration in blood of 117 cows, 112 (95.7%) were classified as healthy and 5 (4.3%) were classified as suffering type II subclinical ketosis; none of the cows were diagnosed as positive on type II clinical ketosis.

Corrected Story

My first flight was very funny, I had never traveled by plane, it was three years ago, one week before the departure day we got some Euros at the bank, because our  journey was to Europe, my father gave me some safety advices, he said: “take care of your sisters”, “don’t let the thief theft you”, and “take care of your luggage because sometimes bad people put illegal things in your backpacks for you to take it”.

I went to the airport with two of my sisters, the first thing we did was getting a travel  insurance, we use a credit card to pay for it. Our travel was not a business trip, it was just for fun, none of us had suitcase, just backpacks as luggage, I was in charge of all the family passports.

Our first destination was London where another sister was waiting for us, the second destination of our trip was Belgium where a friend was waiting for us, we took some export coffee as a gift to my friend, and she took us to sightseeing in all the museums of Brussels, after that we visited to a couple of countries where we walked a lot.

It was a long way from Costa Rica to London, we last 9 hours to arrive; I can’t imagine how many days we would spent if we had were traveled in a cruise ship.

Organic vs Chemical Fertilizer

Most of people thinks that organic fertilizer is better than chemical fertilizer but I believe that most of people are wrong, and I would like to discuss this in class tomorrow, I know that some of the classmates thinks that organic fertilizer is better, so it´s gonna be funny to talk about it.

I agree with people that thinks that chemical fertilizer is more efficient than organic fertilizer because using less amount of it causes the same bennefit in yielding of crops .

Story using the crossword puzzle words

My first flight was very funny, I had never been on a plane, it was three years ago, one week before the departure day we got some Euros at the bank, because our journey was to Europe, my father gave me some safety advices, he said: “take care of your sisters”, “don’t let the theft thief you”, and “take care of your luggage because sometimes bad people put illegal things in your backpacks for you to transport it”.

Middle Term Presentation

For the middle term presentation, I will talk about an electronic device, I chose this existing product because I use it every tuesday at work.

My presentation will include an electronic device used in human health for diabetes care; I will use a niddle to take blood out of me, in order to explain what the device does, and how it does it, if some of the classmates want to do the same they will be allow to do it.

The next part of the presentation will be focus in the usage of the same electronic device in cows’ health, by explaining the relationship of the substance measured with the device and a frequent metabolic disease affecting cows in the close up period.

BIG HOTEL IN GUANACASTE

The business I am thinking of is a tourist resort; the location would have to have beautiful views, lot of palms, nice weather, and nice waves to practice surf.  Carrillo is a beautiful beach located next to Samara beach in Guanacaste, it’s an excellent location to develop a tourist resort because this beach accomplish all the requirements mentioned above, has excellent access by roads and also has an airport.

The people of that location have always work in hotels, so it would be easy to have accsess to workers of that area, the land is cheap, and the banks are willing to allow loans to investments.

AP-5 1st Blog: What and how we normally eat

In our family we formally eat three times per day (breakfast, lunch, supper). We frequently breakfast bread (spread with cheese cream, pate or strawberry jelly), mixed eggs, and coffee or orange juice. The most common food in lunch would probably be: rice, beans, one source of animal protein (beef, pork, chicken or fish), and salad made of lettuce. For the dinner we eat toasted bread (made of remain untouched bread of the breakfast) and “Gallo Pinto” that is a typical dish in Costa Rica made of mixed buttered rice and beans.
We always sit around the table and talk about what we have to do, or what we did, one aspect that probably is different between the way we eat at home, and the way that most families eat in Costa Rica, is that we put the whole pot of food on the table, and everyone take whatever they want, and I believe that is more common in our country that every person take their meals from the kitchen and go to the table with a single portion of food. I think it´s bad for our shape because we probably eat more than our energy balance needs, but it´s the way it is and we enjoy it.

What will my life be like 10 years into the future?

I think that in 10 years, I’ll be a Ph.D in animal science and I’ll be working as a researcher in some university, probably I’ll have a huge family (2 sons and 2 daughters), well is not that huge, but definitely is big enough to my income as a researcher . I hope that in 10 years, I’ll have my own house and my own farm.

Probably I’ll be bald, because there are some signs, and my tummy will be bigger, because I stop practicing sports.

I just hope that my family stays as close to me as always has been, and that my sons and daughters grows up very healthy,  I also hope that my wife love me as she does nowadays.

Fall seven times, get up eight.

I think this proverb express a lot of wisdom, because in life everybody is going to "fall" a lot of times but the important thing is how you handle that "fall", I think that the word fall in this proverb means: lose, fail, or any word that express failure, and is interesting the use of this word because in life when you acttualy fall you feel disapointed.
I simple way of rephrasing this proverb in my own words would be: "never give up".
An example of a real instance in my life when this proverb was used could be when I lost twice the course of analitic and cuantitative chemistry at the university but I didn´t gave up and finaly at the third attempt I make it, I pass the course.

My experiences as a student and what I would change.

When I got into the "Universidad de Costa Rica" I really don´t care too much about grades, I used to go to the university to talk whit my fiends and drink some beers, actually a lot of beers, at the begining it was like a dream I enjoied so much and everything was perfect, but some how I failed the whole first semester, I mean I failed all the courses, even "Humanidades", and anyone failed that course just me, after I wonder to my self: What is going on?, I discover that maybe if I study instead of drink beers I will success in academics, but sometimes is easier to think someting that make it true.
I tried to stop drinking again and again, but I couldn´t, then I went to study to San José, where I didn´t know too much people, but it was just matter of time and I got new friends to spend time drinking beers.
After a few years I decide to stop drinking and amazingly my grades improve a lot, I mean a lot, I reach the best score of the 416 students registred in animal science in 2006.
Probably if I could change something of my student life, it would be the amount of alcohol that I used to drink, maybe the half of the beers would be enough.

"Corporación Monteverde S.A." a good company

This company has 250 direct employees and buys the milk of 300 little dairy farms, most of that milk (about 40000 kg per day) is procesed into cheese and sold in a very selected market here in Costa Rica.
The concept of good or bad is relative, but I consider that a good company should care about:
1-The wellfare of it´s employees.
2-The emviroment.
3-The social wellness of the comunity where the company is located.
4-The economic retribution to the company.
Based in the previous description of what a good company means for me, I will give an example for each of the four points mencioned.
1-"Corporación Monteverde S.A." taught about psycological an physical topics in order to motivate the employees and to prevent any accident related to the everyday work.
2-This company also has very strict quality norms related to the whey degradation in order to prevent pollution.
3-As a way to reward the farmers work, this company gives scholarships to the farmers son´s and daughter´s that otherwise couldn´t be able to study.
4-"Corporación Monteverde" makes sure to make enough money (near to one millon dollars per year) to keep in business.
I think that this company is a good company.

Dream Job

My dream job would be a job that allowed me to travel arround the world, knowing new countrys an places with diferent cultures, and traditions,  like a traveling TV show. But it should be a family travel show because I wouldn´t like to be far away from my son and my girlfriend.
I think that the reason to choose this kind of job as the "dream job" is because my perception of vacations is to travel with my family, so if I could earn money to support all the needs of them by doing this it would be perfect. I supposed that as every job after a few years I maybe feel tired of taking trips, but I would like to give it a try.
I don´t think that it´s a prestigeus job nor in Costa Rica or any other countries but, I strongly believe that you have to make your decisions based in your future happiness, and most of the times it´s not important what people think about it, also I think that prestige is a subjective word that depends on the context.

AP-4 First Blog

I am in this class because to me, it`s absolutly necessary  to improve my lenguage skills by practicing every week and because I like it.
I hope to keep learning until I can comunicate myself with fluency and confidence.
I like that its the most common lenguage on earth and there are a lot of people spread over the world that comunicate in this lenguage, I dislike that I didn`t born in an English spoken country, I am not complaining of my country but probably I would prefer to speak this lenguage earlier in my life.

Confirming my Blog

I think that my blog is still the same, so I hope we dont have any troubles whit the blog,
